C-TRAN is requesting proposals from interested artists interested in providing functional art for the Fourth Plain Bus Rapid Transit project. The Fourth Plain Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Project will be C-TRAN’s pioneering BRT project located in Vancouver, Washington. The corridor includes four distinct geographies that have unique defining characteristics. The four geographies are:
• Downtown: This is the portion of the corridor that is west of Interstate 5. This is the Central Business District of Vancouver and is characterized by taller buildings, more intense development, and a combination of office, retail, and residential uses.
• Fort Vancouver Way: This geography is dominated by Clark College. It includes institutional buildings in a campus setting, with high pedestrian activity.
• International District: This geography is along Fourth Plain Boulevard between Fort Vancouver Way and Andersen Road. The International segment is characterized by a number of ethnic retail establishments in a generally low density (mostly single-story) setting. There is surrounding residential development that reflects a diverse population, and a number of schools and community centers.
• Major Commercial and Vancouver Mall: The segment east of Andresen is characterized by larger retail stores and includes the Westfield Vancouver Mall, the largest shopping center in Vancouver and a regional destination.
C-TRAN has developed several opportunities for functional art along the BRT route. C-TRAN may award multiple contracts for art through this solicitation.
