MISSION: The mission of the Young At Art (YAA) Exhibition is to showcase the creativity of children by giving them the opportunity to hang their works in a professional gallery setting and view the work of their contemporaries. Our goal is to broaden students’ perspectives on the creative process and inform the community about how teachers use art to advance learning. The YAA Exhibition supports Mystic Arts Center’s (MAC) commitment to education and to the enrichment of children’s lives.

ELIGIBILITY: Young At Art is open to all young people through grade 12 who reside or attend school in New London County or Westerly, Rhode Island.

RECEIVING: Artwork for submission must be delivered to MAC Sunday, March 1 and Monday, March 2, 2015 from 11am -5 pm. If it is NOT possible to make either drop-off date, please make arrangements with MAC staff to drop work off PRIOR to those dates. No entries will be accepted after 5pm Monday, March 2. Work may not exceed 48” in either direction or 30 lbs for 3D entries. Submission of entry gives the sponsors and MAC the right to reproduce and publish slides and photographs of artwork.

EXHIBITION & OPENING RECEPTION: The Opening Reception will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 1 – 3 pm at Mystic Arts Center. Awards will be given at 2 pm. Students are encouraged to invite family and friends, and to carpool, as parking is limited. The exhibit runs March 7-April 11, 2015. Public gallery hours are 11 am —5 pm daily.

AWARDS: First prize winners in both 2-D and 3-D categories and in each of the three grade categories, K-4, 5-8, and 9-12, will be awarded gift certificates toward a class of their choosing at MAC. Ribbons and certificates will be awarded for Second Prize, Third Prize, Honorable Mention, Group Projects and the Lil Maxwell Award for Creativity in each category.

PICK-UP: Artwork should be picked up on Sunday, April 12 between 11am and 5pm or Monday, April 13 between 9am and 5pm. Unclaimed work left past June 21st will be disposed of at the staff’s discretion.
