Marion S. Thompson is a local Helena, Montana artist specializing in scenes from around Montana and the Northwest. He took up oil painting after retiring from his job at the State as a software engineer in 2012 after almost 10 years. Prior to that, he was an IT consultant with Applied Management Corporation for 23 years. He has both a bachelors and masters degree in psychology from Texas A&M University. After his bachelors, he spent two years in the army as an Air Defense Artillery officer. One year was spent at the Air Defense School at Ft. Bliss, Texas, and the second year was spent as a platoon leader and executive officer with Battery B, 4th Battalion, 60thArtillery in II Corps, Republic of Viet Nam. In addition to painting, Marion enjoys skiing, hiking the South Hills Trail System, sailing, photography and travel.
