Doreen started taking watercolor classes shortly after her 2005 retirement from owning a hair salon inGlastonbury where her artistic abilities were required. After 10 years of watercolors, she expanded her range of medium by attending classes in acrylic paints for another 3 years. She is always inspired by being near water, both in her global travels and living near the river in Essex.She has been commissioned for private boat paintings, wall murals, and most recently, one of her paintings of the EssexMay Market was selected to be used for the Essex Garden Club advertising poster. Scharfenstein’s work is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Center brook, Connecticut.
