Cristina de Castro graduated from the Instituto Departamental de Bellas Artes in Cali, Colombia, where she lived for many years, and where she was in constant contact with people of many different cultures. Today she lives in the city of Bogota, where her work has been given significant exposure. She has been featured in a number of art exhibitions, including three individual shows in Colombia and a show in Barcelona, Spain. In her "Emerging Forces" series (2011-2013), de Castro renews the creative and conceptual premises of Der Blaue Reiter: the German art movement that included Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, Paul Klee, and others, and which served as the foundation for Abstract Art. De Castro translates her emotions into color, with bold lines augmenting the expression in the works. She depicts the Der Blaue Reiter theme of rebirth after disaster, setting her works in the moment after catastrophe, when universal forces converge in order to heal the planet. Although not political, her works echo the change affecting the Middle East, Europe, and America today. Her works offer peace, hope, and a chance for reflection, which are necessary for the hope of a prosperous future.
