Able Fine Art NY Gallery is proud to present “The Absurd Meets the Void”, a solo exhibition of work by artist Kwon Young. The exhibition will feature Young’s daringly poignant paintings, which elaborate on the artist’s internal message; a craving for kinship between beings on earth. By making her creations visually primitive and pronounced, she implicitly transcribes her morals of universality. As an artist, she finds solace through her creation, which extinguishes the forest fire otherwise raging inwardly.

Kwon Young received her artistic training, graduating with a Master in Fine Arts, at Sookmyung Women’s University after receiving her Bachelors in Fine Arts from Kyungwon University. The promising Korean artist will be exhibiting her work for the first time in the New York, previously having done so in her homeland. Additionally, she has recently participated in the Affordable Art Fair held in Amsterdam last month. As she begins to expand her artistic assembly, her works begin to reach an amplifying audience, which may find the motivation to regard nature more sympathetically.

Young demonstrates her belief that universality is found in the abolishment of dissonance between people and their neighboring flora and fauna. Through her depiction of the latter, we as viewers may retain a sense of symbolism and direction, as the artist obtains liberation and serenity. The Raven and Mackerel are the themes she favors, and although they are found in the external world, their exaggerated features convey an internal source. The mackerel may symbolize fertility, continuity, wisdom, creativity and psychic vision, whilst the raven pertains to guidance, good luck, metamorphosis, prophecy, and, incongruously, mystery. The absurd mysticism of the mackerel and void in the riddle of the raven, are where “The Absurd Meets the Void.” Kwon Young’s mode of depiction, expressionism, is similar to a method of meditation: she delves deep into her emotions, removing the racking, obtrusive excitement within, and emerges feeling rejuvenated and cleansed. The all-consuming fervor she experiences before this process is reflected in her cunningly untamed rendering of the natural world, indicating an alienation between life forms and the global imbalance thus conceived.

Kwon Young expresses, “I believe there is no difference between humans and objects. I communicate with them through reasoning and live together with them. The interchange of feelings between them is also not different from the trifles of human communication, and it can be expressed in art.” Through the segments of the exhibit, Young exposes herself and trusts that the viewers will be mutually adept in finding and connecting themselves by virtue of her artworks.
