FebruarTThe Silver Circle Galley in Putnam, CT is proud to announce the upcoming exhibit Paul Zelanski: Collages. Paul Zelanski is an internationally collected and honored artist who has won countless awards and acknowledgments for his lifetime of achievements. He has gained recognition over his 60 plus years as an artist, educator, and author.
In 2005, Mr. Zelanski received the Connecticut Art Director’s Club Lifetime Achievement Award, and was elected into their Hall of Fame. Zelanski is the co-author of four art textbooks that have been published worldwide, and he has been featured in numerous publications. Throughout his teaching years, Paul travelled the globe to give many college lectures. Zelanski was a student of world-renowned artist Josef Albers and exhibited with Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Pat Jensen, Yves Klein, and Mel Ramos in 1963. Paul is a Yale and Cooper Union Graduate, and a Professor Emeritus at UCONN (1962-1995), where he spearheaded several art department ‘firsts’.
Paul Zelanski’s small scale collages are both poetic and dynamic. They share an intimate view of a world that tells a story of continual change. His study of color over a span of 60 years has “prompted an involvement with the color of shadows, to which the three-dimensional format of these new collages lends itself in an exciting way.” There is an interactive playfulness that takes place between the viewer and the pieces in an unexpected and revealing way, especially as the day’s light patterns shift. Zelanski’s collages are truly the culmination of a lifelong love of color, design, artistic exploration…and sheer amusement.
