Lewis Hine: The Rise of a Landmark
(September 12 – November 26, 2013)
Photographer Lewis Wickes Hine (1874-1940) documented the construction of the monumental Empire State Building at every stage, from its inception in the bedrock to its spectacular appearance on the Manhattan skyline. The photographs that emerged from Hine’s yearlong project do more than glorify the magnificent building, however. They speak to the integrity and courage of the workers who constructed it. Dovetailing with Fairfield University’s campus-wide focus on Cities, this exhibition of photographs explores the human condition in early 20th-century urban America through 51 engaging photographs.
Free and open to the public Tuesdays- Saturdays 11 am to 5 pm. Also open one hour prior to curtain and during intermission of Quick Center season performances.
Closed for all University holidays.
