“History of Woman” Art Exhibit Opening Reception
Thomas J. Walsh Gallery at the Quick Center for the Arts
Jun. 14, 2023 - Jun. 14, 2012
Traveling Art Gallery has taken up space at Thomas J. Walsh Gallery at The Regina Quick Center for the Arts, at Fairfield University, from May 30 – June 23, 2012. Also known as TAG, Traveling Art Gallery is a unique program of Montage Initiative, whereby it offers the use of space and provides a means for impoverished artists around the globe to create and exhibit art while being an avenue of expression and becoming a source of income to build a sustainable life selling their works.
The exhibit does not travel from city to city, the gallery does. Once space is found a call for area artists is made. The process begins of viewing and accepting certain works for exhibition. TAG strives to have the exhibit make a statement, educating those who visit and at the same time the works are available for purchase. When each art piece is sold its mission of being an avenue as a source of income for the artists is fulfilled. The proceeds from each purchase goes to the artist; a portion is given to TAG which is then used for women who do not have the means to create, giving them the supplies they need to do so and providing the space to show and sell their creations, causing a cycle that continues to help others build a sustainable life, working for a living.
TAG started its “grass roots” travels from city to city in September of 2010. Recently, in collaboration with The Regina Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University, the exhibit “History of Woman” is on display in Thomas J. Walsh Gallery. Forty-five area artists with a few from out of state have taken part in this venture with 143 art pieces creating an extraordinaire display.
On Thursday, June 14th, please join us as we celebrate with a reception from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Meet the artists who have joined us to make a global difference. All works are available for purchase, and know that with each piece purchased you have made a powerful statement by helping those who wish not to be in poverty but are striving to make a sustainable living.
