The Gallery on the Green will be having its annual Open Juried Exhibition from October 16 through November 14th. The juror for this exhibition is Benjamin Colman, Assistant Curator at the Florence Griswold Museum. As this is an open exhibition, it will feature the work of artists from all over Connecticut and beyond. On display will be fine art in a wide variety of styles, media and subject matter including painting, drawing, photography and sculpture. Multiple prizes will be awarded. These are funded by Union Savings Bank, Collinsville Savings Society, Mitchell Auto Group/David Tefft, Maxwell Shepherd Memorial Arts Fund, Inc., Marcia and Jeff Marsted, Bill and Penny Doyle, Gregory Erisoty, A & J Quality Roofing, LLC., Jerry’s Artarama CT, Smith Edwards McCoy Architects/Kenton McCoy, object|resonance/Mark G Snyder as well as two endowed funds: the Nancy Cloutier Memorial Prize and the Mitchell Manchester Memorial Prize.

In an upstairs gallery Lori Racicot-Burrous will have a solo show, “Driven to Abstraction,” showcasing her new landscape and barn paintings. Her work ranges from realistic renderings to conceptual and abstract works inspired by familiar subjects.

A 2015 Farmington Valley Arts Center’s Artist in Residence, Lori teaches painting classes and workshops. Her work has been accepted in juried shows, including the Slater Memorial Museum in Norwich, Connecticut. Her work appeared in the June/July 2015 issue of Somerset Studio – The Art of Paper and Mixed-Media magazine, and one of her paintings was chosen as the image for the 2015 Connecticut Historic Gardens Day poster.
An opening reception and awards presentation will be held on Saturday October 17 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm. The public is warmly invited to attend this free reception.

The Canton Artists’ Guild at the Gallery on the Green, the longest continuously-running artist guild in the state, has 3 separate galleries and hosts 9 month-long exhibitions each year. The gallery is located near the intersection of Dowd Avenue and Route 44 at 5 Canton Green Road in Canton. Hours are Friday – Sunday, 1-5 pm. The main floor gallery is handicapped accessible.
