‘Exceptional Talents’ an Exhibition

October 19, 2019 / Helen Kachur

Last month Mona Niko Gallery located in Mission Viejo provided a visual treat in an exhibition titled: Exceptional Talents. The exhibition featured artists from across the globe who submitted works to an open theme/all media, call for entry. According to Niko “We wanted to give an opportunity for artists at all levels to have their work seen, and this exhibition is a snap shot of what some of the top artists are doing”.

The works in this show are varied; acrylic, and oil paintings, colored pencil, pen and ink, pastel and even sculpture. Many of the artists selected for the exhibition were on hand at the Artist Reception to explain their works and provide interesting back stories.

Notable mention went to Lily Nava-Nicholson. Lily created paintings of enchanted worlds filled with mythical beings and fantasy landscapes. Her acrylic painting titled “Atlantian Vision” is a colorful gem that features a soft, dreamlike vision of an only mermaid bathed in light. The image shines like a beacon on the wall inviting the viewer to come closer.

Lillian Anna Blouins’ oil painting titled “The Happy Accident” is a hyper-realistic creation featuring a complex and compelling still life scene. The color palette is reminiscent of 1950s Scandinavian chic with Holiday Turquoise, Sunbeam Yellow and Pearl Grey.

Viewers became entranced by one glance of Sean Echols mixed media sculpture titled “Ojo”. This orb gleams like a star gate; demanding your attention.

Additional pieces worth exploring are the works from Troy Bunch and Stephanie Holznecht. Troys’ piece featured a surrealistic portrait of a woman juxtaposed with images from nature. His piece is a perfect complement to the work of Stephanie Holznecht, whose acrylic abstract painting titled “Rampage” features bold, fluid strokes and bright colors.

Artists for this event included: Lillian Blouin, Troy Bunch, Manal Deeb, Sean Eckols, Stephanie Holznecht, Alexandra Jamieson, Ivan Jauri, Sheida Khosrojerdi, Lily Nava-Nicholson, Tommy Orosco, Jacob Richman, Tod Seitz, Kruti Shah, Samaneh Shirafkan, Harris Wiltsher, Robert Wynne, Hyewon Yoon, and Amanda Zhou.

Mona Niko Gallery is located at The Shops of Mission Viejo and features the work of artist and owner Mona Niko as well as providing unique artist opportunities including art opening, poetry readings and selected live music events.
