“’tis the season” of celebrations, holidays, of giving thanks and of giving gifts, so join us this year for the show Sleighs, Snow and Mistletoe as Marlborough Arts Center celebrates the holidays with area artists showcasing their creativity in transforming the center into a winter season wonderland. Beyond the paintings and sculptures for which the Arts Center is known, the Gift Shop is filled with a variety of original hand crafted gifts including jewelry, knit goods, greeting cards, beeswax candles, carved wood objects, hand-made candy from The Chocolatier of Bennington, Vermont and even Harry Potter wands.
New this year is the Decorate Your Door contest offering a $100.00 prize plus publication of your door on the cover of the 2013 calendar created by Robert Wrenn, the well-known Glastonbury Door artist. These calendars will be available for sale at the Arts Center. Details to enter the contest are at www.marlborougharts.org.
But holidays also need music. The Arts Center and Sleighs, Snow and Mistletoe start the season with a concert by Gail Wade and Turning Point on Friday, November 16, 7:30 – 9 p.m. Returning from past sold out performances will be the Elmer Thienes Elementary School band performing Thursday evening, December 6 from 7-8 p.m. and The Judy Albano Dance Recital on Sunday, December 16 for both a matinee at 4 p.m. and an early evening show at 6 p.m.
Sleighs, Snow and Mistletoe runs from November 17 through December 20. The Arts Center will be open longer hours for the convenience and ease of shoppers. The usual Saturday and Sunday hours from 1-4 p.m. will increase to 1-5 p.m. during every weekend of the Show. The Arts Center will also open evening hours from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, December 7 and 14, as well as during the final week, Monday – Thursday,December 17-20.
