The Pelham Art Center is hosting a public lecture with Titia Hulst and Matthew Cluxton “Living with Art: Insights into Art Collecting” on Wednesday, October 24th from 5:30-7:30 PM. This professional lecture will discuss the meaning and joys of collecting art.

Local collector, art historian and published author Titia Hulst will be discussing her journey of collecting art. Enjoy the personal narrative with a visual presentation of some key artworks and the stories behind them. Hulst recently published “A History of the Western Art Market: A Sourcebook of Writings on Artists, Dealers, and Markets” traces the emergence and evolution of art markets in the Western economy, from the city-states of Quattrocento Italy to the high-stakes markets of post-millennial New York and Beijing. Titia Hulst is currently an art history professor at SUNY Purchase, and an esteemed art professional. Pick up your signed copy of the book after the discussions.

Matthew Cluxton, expert from The Cincinnati Insurance Co. is the Director of Valuable Articles and Personal-lines. Cluxton will be sharing valuable information about asset protection and sharing some extreme examples where art objects were thankfully insured. He holds more than 10 years of experience in the highly specialized market of fine art, jewelry and collectibles. He is responsible for providing guidance on complex high value schedules, valuations and protective measures. His background includes majoring in art history which led him to his expertise in the field.
