March Exhibitions Opening reception: Friday March 4 from 6-9 pm Exhibition dates: March 2-26, 2011 Gallery hours: Wed to Sat 12-6 pm, and Sun. 12-4 pm Carleen Clifton Bragg Having been exposed to photography at a very young age, Carleen Clifton Bragg has been mesmerized by the media ever since. The process of peering through the view finder at a world that fills her with excitement, anxiety and joy. It is her desire to capture that emotional experience in the images she captures on film. Sue Sommers The series of watercolor/gouache portraits, “Children Looking Back,” was inspired by images from Sue Sommers’ family photo album. All of the children pictured would now be 50 to 70 years old. They are family, friends, and classmates, being re-examined across time. Children are very conscious of the adult gaze. In the photos, she sees children looking back at adult authority. How they respond to the adult “in charge” will shape their entire lives, and says a lot about who they are or yearn to be. It will stay with them into adulthood. LandEscape The work in “LandEscape” stretches beyond the traditional conception of landscape by using the genre for voices and subjects beyond the picturesque. These landscapes are dynamic and interactive. The artists in this show invest in the idea that art is not to be seen just as something to be apprehended in a single glance, but as a voice of awareness of the changes occurring day by day on our landscape. Alberto Aguilar • Isak Applin • Carl Barrata • Rose DiSalvo • Rebecca Walz The curators for the LandEscape exhibit are Javier Lara and Rose DiSalvo
