Fine Art and Flowers
Gallery On The Green
Apr. 26, 2025, 06:00 pm
The Fine Art and Flowers exhibition at the Gallery on the Green celebrates the arrival of spring and the joy of flowers at the Gallery on the Green. Our artist members created works of art that interpret the seasonal theme and, once the exhibition is installed on the gallery walls, our members and members of the Cherry Brook Garden Club create floral compositions inspired by the works of art.
The opening weekend of the exhibition, April 25-27, is particularly delightful for visitors. Flowers are displayed on pedestals adjacent to the artwork that inspired them so that both can be enjoyed simultaneously. And from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 26 the public is also warmly invited for free refreshments at a reception for this show and the upstairs exhibitions.
Peggy Steinway and John Rohlfing have a joint upstairs exhibit of sculpture entitled, “Dark to Light.” Steinway describes her work as being “most influenced by the duality of life with its beauty and ugliness, simplicity and complexity, joy and sorrow, darkness and transcendence… My motivation is to engage in the act of creation in order to process ideas, materials and be surprised by the final destination.” Steinway is a recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts Regional fellowship and the Connecticut Commission of the Arts Individual Artist Grant. A graduate of the N.Y. State College of Ceramics and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale
Rohlfing’s sculptures are based on historical objects he saw while traveling in Japan. They are influenced by Jomon ceramics. The circular platter shapes are inspired by Japanese “Ringos” small intricate ear adornments used during the Neolithic time period 10,500-300 BCE. Rohlfing, an internationally acclaimed artist, has ceramic sculpture at the Renwick Gallery at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His large-scale public sculpture is at the Isador Wexler School in New Haven.
In the upstairs Spotlight Gallery is “From the Chateau,” comprised of mixed media paintings which Anna Weberson created during a two week 2025 Artist Residency at Chateau Orquevaux in France. Webersen is a Connecticut-based artist who creates vibrant abstract paintings that reflect the hoopla, chaos and beauty that make up life. Colorful marks and symbols alongside sweeping brush strokes, fluid curves and hard, craggy lines draw viewers in and invite them to create their own narrative. Through the act of painting, she explores multiple materials on a flat surface.
The reception for the these shows is Saturday, April 26 from 6:00-8:00 pm and will include free refreshments. The public is warmly invited.
