The Muse of Poe – Juried Exhibition
Reception: February 13, 2013 5-9 pm
Juror: Wyona Lynch-McWhite is currently Executive Director of the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA. The Fruitlands Museum is dedicated to the Heritage, Nature and Art of New England. Lynch-McWhite has served as Executive Director of Fuller Craft Museum, Director and Chief Curator of the Eleanor D.Wilson Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Art Institute of Chicago as well as serving on the board of the American Alliance of Museums’ Leadership and Management Network and has previously served on the College Art Association Museum Committee and was Director at Large on the South Eastern Museums Conference governing council.
Theme: Artwork for this exhibition should be inspired by Edgar Allan Poe. Works can be direct interpretations of his stories or they can be loosely inspired by them.
Categories for original work: Painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, photography, ceramics, fiber, metals, glass, wood, printmaking, videography and collage.
Eligibility: Original artwork only.
– Work cannot have been shown in the New Bedford area within the last two years.
– All artwork must be for sale or for order. The ArtWorks! Gallery takes a 30% commission on the sale of members’ work and 40% on non-members’ work. Please price your work accordingly.
– Each artist may submit up to three pieces. No size limitations, though we will edit as the space dictates. Sculptures may not weigh more than 50 pounds.
– Work must be suitably framed and wired for hanging. Any special hardware required for installation must accompany work along with directions for installation.
Registration fees: Please complete and return the registration form with payment to ArtWorks! 384 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, MA 02740 by October 25, 2013.
Fee for each entry is $10 each or 3 for $25; up to 3 artworks may be submitted. Make checks payable to ArtWorks!. Fees are non-refundable.
Electronic entries: Entries must be submitted electronically. You must send your images in by October 25, 2013 to [email protected]. Files should be named as follows: first initial, last name, abbreviated title, number 1-3. In your email include name, phone number, e-mail address, and number of images. Images titles must match the title on the registration form.
Receiving of accepted work: Work will be received on January 14, 2014 from 9-5pm at 384 Acushnet Avenue, New Bedford, MA 02740. Artwork will not be accepted before or after the date. If you are shipping your work it must arrive prior to or on January 14th with a pre-paid return shipping form. ArtWorks! will not incur any shipping expenses.
Opening: The exhibit runs from January 21 –February 19, 2014. The reception will be held on Thursday February 13 from 5-9pm.
Close of Show: Work may not be removed before the close of the gallery on the last day of the show. Work must be picked up on February 20, 2014. Work not picked up by February 20th is left at owners’ risk and could be subject to storage fees of $10 per day.
Liability: Every reasonable care will be taken in the handling and storage of the works submitted.
Calendar: Registration form and fees and electronic entries must be received by ArtWorks! by October 25th by 5pm. Images must be sent to [email protected] by October 25th at 7pm.
Notification of acceptance will be emailed to artist by December 9th.
Accepted work must be dropped off to ArtWorks! gallery by January 14th from 9- 5pm.
Reception is February 13th from 5-9pm.
Pick up of exhibited work is February 20th from 9-5. Work may not be removed before the close of gallery on the last day of the show.
