Southern Tier Biennial (STB) exhibitions celebrate the vitality and diversity of contemporary art in New York State’s Southern Tier region. A professionally juried contemporary art exhibition open to emerging and established artists in nine counties, STB was founded in 2003 to make a measurable and positive difference for rural artists.
Open to all artists, 18 years of age or older, who are currently residing in New York State’s Southern Tier (the counties of Allegany, Broome, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, Tioga, and Tompkins). Works created in all visual media are eligible. Jurying will be from digital images only. Applicants may submit up to three entries for consideration with and entry fee of $30. All applications must be submitted electronically by midnight, June 7, 2013.
Each accepted artist receives a $100 stipend to help allay costs associated with travel, shipping, and production. $1,000 to the Best of Show winner and $500 for three Honorable Mention winners. The Best of Show winner will also be presented with a solo show in the Fall of 2014 with a four-color catalog, up to $1,000 for professional development and up to $1,000 for show expenses. 2013 STB Jurors are Kate Koperski, Director of the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University, and John Vanco, Director and Curator of the Erie Art Museum. Opening reception and awards ceremony on September 21 at Olean Public Library Gallery 3:00pm; Reception and celebration 4:30pm at Jamestown Community College’s Center Gallery.
