Sandy and its Aftermath is open to artists and the community, presenting
a platform to simultaneously and holistically showcase the hurricane’s
effect on the area. The exhibition is conceived and organized by Dora
Szekely in conjunction with Hera Gallery and will be juried by Dave Gilly
Gilstein, co-owner and Director of The Charlestown Gallery and Szekely,
Director of Hera Gallery.

The exhibition is seeking submissions of art based on or inspired by
hurricane Sandy and its aftermath. Work can be representational or
abstract, express the hurricane’s effect internally, within one’s
community, observationally or speak broadly of a natural disaster’s effect
on society and the environment. The exhibition encourages submissions of
all media.

*Artists may submit up to 5 pieces* with a recommended $5 per piece that
will be donated to relief efforts. Taking into consideration the timeframe
for this exhibition, we ask pieces to be able to be installed.

*The exhibition’s community section* will be open to anyone who wishes to
submit stories, photographs, videos, poetry or pieces based on Sandy and
its aftermath.

*SUBMISSION OF ART WORK*: Wednesday, November 28th from 6:00 to 8:00pm and
Saturday, December 1st from 11:00am and 1:00pm. Call to make other
arrangements. Artwork is to be dropped off at the Hoxie Gallery, located in
the Westerly Library, at 44 Broad Street, Westerly, RI
Work not accepted will have the option to be in the community section or be
picked up Tuesday, between 3:30pm to 6pm.

*COMMUNITY SUBMISSIONS*: During Westerly Library Hours, bring pieces to the
circulation desk. Submissions may be brought until Wednesday, December 5th

EXHIBITION DATES*: December 5th to December 29th

*OPENING RECEPTION*: Wednesday, December 5th from 6:00 to 9:00pm,
coinciding with Westerly’s Art Stroll.
