In the spirit of keeping the arts alive and to boost the resurgence in our community, The Belleville Mural Project will bring FOUR new murals to Belleville in the Fall of 2021. The goal of the Belleville Mural Project is to make downtown Belleville a destination location in Southern Illinois bringing more foot traffic into the area which will positively impact the success of our downtown businesses.

Artists are invited to submit a design along with a description of the proposed mural and a work sample showing the artists’ style. Artists will be responsible for all their materials required including paint. If traveling from out of area, housing and transportation is an artist expense.

Mural Guidelines:
*Design and implication is of a high level and excellence
*Happy, uplifting, inspiring and colorful
*Absent of any political, social statements or influences
*When possible, it will represent a pro Belleville message
*Universal appeal – Accepted and Loved
*Visible, well-trafficked locations a priority.

1. The owner of 16 N Jackson St, Belleville, IL 62220. (Google Map link for additional building images and street views -https://bit.ly/3kkXTrB) is looking to install a community themed mural that also allows for community involvement as part of the installation. Within the graphics of the mural, we are looking to feature a quote from a song with themes focused on inclusivity, community, positivity, etc. A few songs for example: Get Together by The Youngbloods, Everyday People by Sly and the Family Stone, What A Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, and Three Birds by Bob Marley. Building dimensions are noted in the photo above. The dumpsters will need to remain where they are currently located in the photo above, so please take this into consideration when designing – of course we’d love for them to sit in front of a pretty background!
