The Redevelopment Agency of Midvale City is seeking qualified artists, or artist teams, to participate in the 2nd annual Midvale City Mural Festival which is now known as Los Muros on Main. Featuring a series of murals created by local, national, and international artists, the event will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

To apply, artists must submit a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) by Friday, March 24, 2023, @ 5:00 p.m. Selected artists will be asked to design and install a mural that is aesthetically pleasing, imaginative, iconic, and a welcoming feature for Midvale residents, business owners, and the Midvale Main Street area.

This call is open to mural artists and artist teams ages 18 and up. Artists agree to paint their murals sometime between May 30 and June 10, 2023, but all artists MUST begin painting no later than Monday, June 5, 2023, and must complete their mural by Saturday, June 10, 2023. Artists (or a member of each artist team) are expected to participate in the Midvale City Mural Festival by either live painting and finish up their mural during the festival or engaging with festival attendees. Artists must communicate to both RDA staff and the property or business owner a start date.

Selected artists who are US citizens will be awarded a stipend of up to $4,000 to cover costs related to the mural project, including artist’s fees and related expenses for design, supplies, equipment rental, insurance, transportation, and installation. An additional per diem amount will be provided to artists who live in the United States but outside of Utah or the greater Wasatch front area for lodging, food, and transportation during the festival if needed.

Selected artists whose citizenship is other than that of the United States will receive reimbursements of up to $4,000 for mural-related expenses and travel. This may include travel to the festival, insurance, paint, materials, and mural-related equipment. An additional reimbursable per diem amount for lodging, food and transportation within Midvale City will also be provided for up to six days.
