Dear Artist,

We are pleased to announce that the Loft Artists Association (LAA) is accepting applications for new Associate Members this spring.

Established in 1978 as a volunteer tenant art association, and incorporated as a non-profit in 1986, the LAA has grown into one of the area’s premier visual arts organizations. Our mission is to provide artists with a supportive environment, exhibition and networking opportunities, and to reach out to the community at large with education and artistic expression. The LAA has produced annual Open Studios events, arranged studio tours with schools, produced performance and lecture series, as well as workshops for the public; and has exhibited in venues throughout and beyond Stamford. The membership typically numbers fifty working artists, divided about equally between Studio Members, who rent studio space at 845 Canal Street, and Associate Members.

Associate membership in the LAA will be granted via juried selection. Applicants must submit a completed application form, along with a current resume and four jpeg images. Applications must be received by June 30. Finalists will be selected by July 11th. Finalists will be asked to bring up to three pieces of their work to the LAA for final jurying. Details of this process will be provided upon selection.

All LAA events are produced by the collective efforts of all its members. Applicants should be mindful that Studio and Associate Members alike are expected to participate by offering ideas and time. Members must attend monthly membership meetings, and contribute a yearly minimum of ten volunteer hours. Members are encouraged to participate in community outreach programs and member events. Annual dues are currently $150. We advise that you apply only if you can make a commitment to this level of participation.

The dedication of the LAA membership is well rewarded! All members may participate in our annual Open Studios weekend — Associate Members are given a space in the building for this popular event. The LAA also offers valuable promotion opportunities, including local publicity for LAA events and participation in the LAA website for a reasonable fee. Members may also choose to participate in the Loft Artists Gallery, which provides additional exhibition opportunities.

We will contact you by phone or email if you have been selected for final jurying. Further instructions will be provided to finalists, including a specific time and date for drop off and pick up of submitted work. Finalist’s work must be delivered in person.
We will conduct a short interview with each finalist.

We expect to complete the full jurying by July 18, 2012.
