Wave Hill is pleased to announce a Call to Artists for its 2012 Sunroom Project Space Program. The Sunroom Project Space is a venue for New York-area emerging artists to develop new work to exhibit in one of the two windowed sunrooms of Wave Hill’s Glyndor House. Five artists will be selected for solo exhibitions in 2012. Applications can be downloaded from www.wavehill.org/arts/artist.html. Images and more information about the space can also be found on the Web site. The submission deadline is April 15, 2011. An information session will be held on Sunday, March 6 at 2:30 PM. Please e-mail [email protected] to RSVP. Work in all media will be considered and artists are encouraged to experiment with the parameters of traditional display and exhibition formats. The selected artists will have between 6 and 12 months to develop their ideas and to create new work for the project. The selected artists will receive an honorarium of $1,500. There will be five Sunroom exhibitions on view for a period of six weeks each from April through November 2012. Interested artists are strongly encouraged to visit Wave Hill before submitting an application. Eligibility: Open to emerging artists with a record of solid achievement and potential, for whom this opportunity might contribute to professional advancement, and who are not represented by a commercial gallery, not a student, and have not previously shown at Wave Hill. Because we encourage artists to spend time at Wave Hill developing their ideas, artists should live within a 50-mile radius of the Bronx. Application Process: Applications with preliminary concepts are due on April 15, 2011, using the application form available on the Web site. A jury made up of Wave Hill’s Assistant Curator, an invited curator, and a previous Sunroom artist will review the submissions and develop a short list of artists to meet with, either at Wave Hill or in the artists’ studios. The curatorial staff will balance approaches and schedules to make a final selection. Decisions will be made by the end of August 2011 and all artists will be contacted at that time.
