From October 17, 2013 through January 10, 2014, CoCA will present a group exhibition focused on flameworked borosilicate glass associated with the emergence of cannabis legalization: pipes, bubblers, tubes, vaporizers, jars, marbles, scientific glass, and other functional categories as well as non-functional fine art inspired by the movement will be considered.

Artists juried into Ceci N’est Pas Une Pipe will be featured in a color catalog compiling artists’ statements, biographies, and images, as well as introductory essays by David Francis (Museum of Glass Curator), and Hillary Ryan (Museum of Glass Communications Director), co-curators. The catalog is designed and published by CoCA and available to artists at cost.

Ceci N’est Pas Une Pipe will be on display at CoCA’s Georgetown gallery, located inside the Seattle Design Center, Suite 258, at 5701 6th Avenue South, Seattle WA 98108, open 9-5, M-F. An opening reception occurs on on Thursday, October 17. A flame-off (flameworking demo) by participating artists, is under consideration.

Artists in the Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, as well as the province of British Columbia are welcome to submit. Ceci N’est Pas Une Pipe will be archived on CoCA’s website. All work will be for sale (unless display only is requested), with a split of 60% artist, 40% CoCA. Objects submitted for the exhibition may either be existing work and/or proposed work (indicate in Description field and include a jpg of a sketch if appropriate). Shipping is the responsibility of the artist; works are insured by CoCA during exhibition.
