Palazzo Branafei-Nervegna

Oct. 31, 2017

Brindisi, Via Duomo, Italy

Submissions are open for artists worldwide to apply at FRAGMENTS, the International Contemporary Ancient Art Exhibition & Project based in Brindisi, Italy.

The title of the exhibition is an ancient reminder, understood as the source of absolute values, beauty, harmony, perfection, measure, wisdom. Values to be reinterpreted in a contemporary key.

The exhibition documents the activity of Italian and foreign artists engaged in a new reflection between contemporary and historical heritage, which tend to acquire figures and motifs of the archaeological and mythological imagination, filtered by an artistic vision related to the excellence of the territory.

Creative thinking, especially since the second half of the 20th century, has often been linked to the processes, methods and issues of archeology. In contemporary art field there are many artists who have taken inspiration for their works from antiquity or archeology.
Their approach is analogous to what the archaeologist has with regard to the fragment and consists in bringing to the surface the memory of places and their historical value.

Through the search for the balance between what was and what it might be, the contemporary art adds to the old new meanings, linked to the past traces, but responsive to the present needs and promotes deep understanding and active fruition.

addition to the huge array of contemporary art, the event will again showcase the following special features including: Terrecromie ( live performance); Secret Passages (seminars with researches, archaeologists );Art Conversation ( video art & cinema); Visitor guide at exhibition & archeological sites.
