Artist Statement My work has its roots in the natural world. I collect and recreate found natural and manmade objects specific to a place, with great attention to detail. I find beauty in the ordinary and the overlooked. Human influence on the environment is a current subject, as is imagery from 16th and 17th century Renaissance still life painting. The transient element of still life is there, as the moment has already passed and is but a memory. For the past ten years, my work has been inspired by the ocean, and environmental issues. I am currently shifting my focus back to looking at historic still life, exploring abundance and remains. SUSAN SCHULTZ 2016
