The Brandywine River Museum exhibits American art of the 19th-century and is internationally known for its works by three generations of Wyeths and American still life and landscape painting.

During the 19th century many artists traveled to the Brandywine Valley to study landscape painting. Well known members of the Hudson River School, including Thomas Doughty and Edward Moran have painted in the region

…following quote taken from the Brandywine River Museum website. “Discover a distinguished collection of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American art, housed in a renovated nineteenth-century mill with a dramatic steel and glass addition that overlooks the bucolic Brandywine River. The extraordinary site—the intersection of art and nature—emphasizes the Brandywine Conservancy’s commitment to the preservation of the natural, cultural and scenic resources of the region.”
