Habitat: Carole Ricketts

Gallery East in McKinley Arts & Culture hosts multi-media artist Carole Ricketts. Her work explores personal, cultural, and adaptation challenges of changing land and language, with the use of ceramics, paint, collage, and printmaking. Ricketts perfectly masters the mixed-media combination to express emotions all across the board, specifically the meeting of harmony and difficulties. Her pieces are multi-drop monotypes, some with as many as 20 individual hand printed layers, collage, pottery, and acrylic painting. Ricketts’ 16th century historical childhood home stood next to the site of an iron-age fort, also being at the intersection of leylines between a sacred well and ancient standing stones. ‘Habitat’ attempts to portray a notion of monoliths as a visual metaphor for her theme of cultural adaptation.

Carole Ricketts is a British artist, attending the University of Gloucestershire, U.K., receiving a BFA (Honors) in painting, fine art printmaking, and ceramics. Prior to this, Ricketts also studied full-time in graphic communications and photography.

McKinley Arts and Culture Center hosts two gallery spaces. Located on the river walk, McKinley Galleries East and West show talented artists from the Great Basin and beyond.
