Daniel Greene is a celebrated mainstream realist whose work should be thought of in parallel with the greatest of narrative artists. His art exploits both skill and imagination, and carries on the great American tradition of narrative painting. Beginning with Benjamin West’s historical works and extending to the academic works of the Ashcan artists and the painters of the American Scene, Greene remains sensitive to the times and is aware of the contribution of modernism. Though his work rejects elements of modernism, it pays tribute to other aspects of it at the same time. A catalog and poster accompany this show and are available for purchase through the Butler Museum Store with part of the proceeds to benefit The Butler Institute of American Art programs.

This exhibition is sponsored in part by the Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Jewish Federation, Gallery Henoch, Jack Richeson & Co. Inc., and Portraits, Inc.
