Juried Documentary Photography Exhibition at Mills Pond Gallery April 28 – May 19
Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to present a Juried Documentary Photography Exhibition April 28 – May 19 at Mills Pond Gallery. Juror Kevin C. Downs has selected the work of 13 photographers whose work uses visual narratives to tell stories and draw attention to real-life situations. Exhibited projects touch on aspects of contemporary life both locally and globally. Selected photographers will each be exhibiting eight to 10 images from their documentary project.

Exhibiting Photographers: Cathy Cheney (OR), Matthew Donohue (NY), Diane Henderson (Hauppauge), Stephen Hoffman (Bellmore), Dimitri Mellos (NYC), Carlos Morales (Port Jefferson), Karen George Mortimore (North Carolina), Julius Motal (Whitestone, NY), Go Nakamura (NYC), Fredy Perojo (Yonkers), Ellamarie Quimby (PA), Luis Antonio Rojas (NYC), Kanishka Sonthalia (Brooklyn)

Documentary photography is a form of image-making aiming to chronicle the events and the environments in order to tell a story and send a message. Just as with writing a story, the establishment of a clearly defined, developed narrative is the foundation of all successful storytelling whether through a written story or visual narrative. This important premise guided the juror selections. Many of the projects entered touch on aspects of contemporary life both locally and globally.
