Smithtown Township Arts Council is pleased to announce Colors of the Night, a Juried Fine Art Exhibition of Nocturnal Art at the Mills Pond Gallery, 660 Route 25A, Saint James, NY. The exhibit opens Saturday, August 19 at 2 pm and continues through Saturday, September 30. The public is invited to an opening reception on Saturday, August 19, 2-4 pm to meet the participating artists and view their work. Judge/Juror Tim Newton selected 58 works in a variety of media including Pastel, Mixed Media, Gouache, Acrylic, Oil, and Watercolor. The 45 artists included hail from 13 states and 21 are from Long Island. Prize winners will be announced on opening day. Mills Pond Gallery hours are: Wednesday through Friday 10 am – 4 pm and Saturday and Sunday 12 pm – 4 pm. Admission to the Gallery is free. About judge/ juror Tim Newton:
An art collector for over 25 years, Tim Newton has amassed a collection of some 300 works in an array of genres. Widely acknowledged for his discerning eye, his is a collection of great diversity which includes pieces by many prominent living master artists. Tim Newton is currently in his third term as Chairman of the Board of the Salmagundi Club, one of the oldest art organizations in the United States. Tim is the founder and curator of American Masters, an annual art exhibition and sale at the famed Salmagundi Club. Since its inception in 2008, the show has exhibited some of the very best in American contemporary art. He created and runs this annual exhibition (as a volunteer) for the benefit of the Salmagundi Club. Tim also serves on the Board of the Artists’ Fellowship, the Board of Trustees for the Stobart Foundation and the Board of Advisors for the Clark Hulings Foundation.
