Since the middle ages, artists have combined texts with images. The image might add interest, clarify a concept or deliver a message. These visuals have been expanded upon and continue to do so today. And ads, books and billboards, comics etc. add the two in new and interesting ways. Many contemporary artists look for new ways to combine these two elements.

The ways in which text and images have combined have grown in exponentially. Artists, graphic designers, ads both written and viewed, have enriched visual experiences. We now see text and letters used for their own sake as well as enhancing information. Comic books and zines alone have brought in a new way of looking at the combination of text and images.Contemporary art is full of rich examples of how fun, rich, informative and visually stimulating text and images have become.
