April 5 – 20, 2018
Artist’s Reception Thursday April 12, 6:00-7:30 pm
Free and Open to All

See tomorrow’s art stars! Pelham Art Center is excited to continue its annual exhibition featuring exceptional student art in the High School Art Salon, on view April 5-20 with an Artist’s Reception on Thursday, April 12, 6:00-7:30 pm, free and open to the public.

Featuring work in a range of media; sculpture, collage, painting, drawing and mixed media, this exhibition captures the unique energy and vision of a new generation of artists. For many, this will be their first exhibition experience. Pelham Art Center is delighted to offer this learning and career-building opportunity for students from eight Westchester schools.
Come see the work of these future art stars before their burgeoning careers take them to future galleries!

Advanced art classes, including Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses, are designed for upper level high school students interested in pursuing art with added intensity. Many of the dedicated students are preparing art portfolios as part of their college applications. This exhibition offers the public a chance to see the innovative works of these young artists and the professional experience of a gallery exhibition.

In conjunction with the exhibition we will be screening the documentary Inocente on April 17, at 5:30 pm. Also a free event. At 15, Inocente refuses to let her dream of becoming an artist be caged by her life as an undocumented immigrant forced to live homeless for the last nine years. Color is her personal revolution and its extraordinary sweep on her canvases creates a world that looks nothing like her own dark past

The salon will highlight artwork by students in advanced art classes from these local high schools:

Bronxville High School will be submitting students from AP Studio. The work will include drawing, painting, digital design and photography. The concentrations range from studies of ancient cultures in modern lifestyle to effects of rain and light on the environment to god moments. Other students are studying geometry in architecture, duality of gender roles, evidence of life in public spaces, perspective of desire and exposing internal human nature.

Dobbs Ferry
Students who participate are from the two year International Baccalaureate Visual Arts class. At the end of the program students create a body of work that reflects their research and understanding of art history, culture, and personal reflection.

Fordham Preparatory Fine Arts Department offers Studio Art I, II, and AP Studio Art. The Studio Art II students have recently been painting in the style of another artist such as Monet/Impressionism and Warhol/Pop, while the AP Studio Art students have been busy completing their 2D Design portfolios.

Mamaroneck High School offers both broad and deep experiences in the visual arts for its students. Students can study drawing and painting, filmmaking, photography, design and ceramics in four year sequences in which students grow more self-directed and independent as artists as they gain skills and experience.

The Art Program at Mount Vernon High School offers students the opportunity to study artists throughout history, to work with different art techniques and experiment with a variety of art mediums. The students create original art through the study of drawing, painting, and photography.

New Rochelle High School has a robust AP Studio Art program ranging from Drawing and 2-D Design and into 3-d Design and Sculpture. Each NRHS students will be submitting an mages that is part of a body of work created for the Concentration section of the AP Portfolio.

The Pelham Memorial High School art students have been working with a range of media and techniques to explore self-expression and find deeper meaning in their work. Their goal is to build a portfolio that conveys who they are as people and showcases their skills as artists. Photography: After mastering the art of photographic composition and the technical aspects of the camera the Advanced Photography students at work towards developing their own personal style and strive to convey deeper meaning in their work.

Advanced Topics in 2D Studio Art at Scarsdale High School is a college level course that enables students to experience an artistic exploration involving visual and critically informed investigation. Students create quality studio works and an in-depth Art Investigation Journal to articulate their own personal artistic vision and art making practice.
