The Importance of Composition
In simple terms, “Composition is the arrangement of unequal things”, according to John Ruskin, English writer and artist. Deborah Quinn-Monson will expand on this idea by breaking down the painting process into three basic elements – shape, value and color. She will discuss her unique approach to design and composition, which centers on the study of the relationship of large shapes to small, light value to dark, and warm color to cool color.

Deborah Quinn-Monson will speak about her work as it has developed over the years and the thread –her “arrangements” – that connect four decades of painting in various mediums and subject matter.
