The Newburyport Art Association, in close collaboration with The City of Newburyport and the local Veteran Services, will be offering an art education program for area Veterans beginning this Spring. This program is in keeping with the NAA’s mission of exhibition, education and community outreach and has received enthusiastic support from Mayor Donna Holaday, Veteran Services Administrator Kevin Hunt, and Lois Honegger, Cultural Affairs.

Veteran Services Administrator Mr. Hunt states: “The Veterans Office is excited by this unique opportunity for local veterans. A special thank you to members of the Newburyport Art Association for their interest and constructive spirit in supporting our veteran population.”

The 2017 pilot program will consist of three, 4-week sessions:

April 3, 10, 17 & 24 Beginning Painting with NAA artist member & instructor Rosalie Sidoti
May 1, 8, 15 & 22 Basic Photography with NAA artist member, Senior Gallery & Marketing Associate, & Instructor Jay McCarthy
June 5, 12, 19 & 26 The Fundamentals of Drawing and/or Pastels with Susan Spellman or Robin Thornhill

Classes will meet on Mondays at the Newburyport Art Association (65 Water Street, Newburyport MA) from 1:30p.m. to 4:00p.m. Enrollment and art materials are offered at no cost to the Veteran. Classes will be held at the Newburyport Art Association; space is limited, first come, first serve, maximum of 8 students per class. Currently, the three partners, as well as private donors, are underwriting the costs of the program. In the future, the NAA and its partners hope to secure grant funding for the Veterans art education program. If you or someone you know would benefit from a comfortable and inspiring educational setting in which to explore art, please contact the NAA at 978.465.8769 to register; you may also email [email protected].
