Ray Jacobsen (1938-2007) was born in Englewood, Colorado and moved to Sonoma, California in 1947 where he lived for the remainder of his life. Ray showed an interest and talent in art from a very young age. After high school, faced with the draft, he enlisted in the Army and was sent to Korea. After returning home, he worked several jobs, got married and started a family. By his late 20s he was living the artists dream, able to support his family through the sale of his paintings.

The rest of Ray’s life was spent fully devoted to his art, working primarily in oil and watercolor. In 1975, Ray met his soul-mate and fellow artist Barbara, and within two years they were married. They continued their journey together for 30 years until his death on September 3, 2007.

Ray’s work is in numerous public and private collections throughout the United States and abroad, and he has been exhibited extensively in solo and group shows. He also taught private painting classes in oil and watercolor mediums.

Calabi Gallery will be showing 40 years of paintings by Sonoma Valley artist Ray Jacobsen. There will be an opening reception Saturday, June 24th from 4-8pm. The exhibition will run from June 24th – August 19th, 2017.
