ABOUT HOTBOX

MASS’s Hotbox residency program transforms the gallery space into a working studio for one month of the summer. This residency program opens the space to artists interested in participating in self-directed residencies in Austin, TX. This open call offers up to 2 individual residency spots every summer over a 4 week period. The length of each residency will be determined by the particular interests of each applicant with a maximum of 4 weeks total. While applicants may be at any stage of their career, MASS is particularly interested in nurturing projects that would not be realized otherwise. MASS’s goal is to provide our gallery as studio space, give artists the opportunity to explore new ideas or practices, and allow the participating artists to engage with the Austin community.  Due to space limitations, applications from groups or collectives will not be accepted.

GENERAL RESIDENCY ASPECTS

MASS offers a studio space furnished with a work table and chair, 24/7 access to the studio, air conditioning, wireless internet, Austin-area resources via MASS connections, and an $800 honorarium. MASS offers no production workshops of any kind but, if necessary, can assist in finding available options to satisfy specific project needs and/or other desired resident activities.

Each resident will be financially responsible for transportation costs to and from Austin as well as for housing, living expenses, local transportation, production costs and any additional materials.

If necessary, MASS can extend invitation letters to assist selected residents to apply for additional funding or/and travel requirements.
