The City of Newburyport, in collaboration with the Newburyport Art Association (NAA), is inviting artists and design professionals to submit proposals for a public art mural project. The mural initiative is funded by a Recreational Trails Grant from the Department of Conservation and Recreation, and the murals will be permanently installed on solid board fencing along Phase II of the Clipper City Rail Trail. The project will enhance the trail corridor, contribute to the distinct character of the area, and help bring art to people’s everyday lives.

Proposals are due on May 1, 2017. Finalists will be selected in May, selections made in June, and the murals created over the summer. The artwork will be digitally printed on 4’x6’ aluminum composite panels, laminated for protection from ultraviolet radiation, framed with metal trim molding, and mounted on the wood fence panels along with plaques for the artist’s name and mural title in the fall.

For more information, Geordie Vining, Senior Project Manager in Newburyport’s Planning Office, can be reached at (978) 465-4400, or Elena Bachrach, NAA Executive Director, at (978) 465-8769.
